  • Course Overview

Join Kino September 1-21 to explore the work of Second Series with your Omstars community!

Intermediate Series, also known as Second Series, has a reputation. Kapotasana. Karandavasana. Legs behind the head. Poses that stop practitioners for months, sometimes years.

But the poses were never the point. Traditionally, Second Series is passed from teacher to student, one posture at a time, with the method behind each one: where the strength comes from, how the flexibility is built, what to do when your body says not yet.

That's what this challenge teaches. Not just the poses, but the work.

    Who this is for?

This challenge is for Ashtanga practitioners ready to dive into Intermediate Series or refine the postures for those already practicing Intermediate Series.

You should be familiar with the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. You don't need to "have" every pose but you’ve practiced the full series with some regularity. Variations and progressions are built into every class, so you can meet each posture where your body is today.

    How it works?

One class a day, for 21 days. Every class is prerecorded, so you practice on your schedule, in your time zone, in your own space.

Each week follows the same rhythm:

Days 1–6: Tutorial + Drills. Kino breaks down one posture (or posture group) in a long-form tutorial, then leads targeted drills to build the specific strength and flexibility it demands. This is the teaching that's usually only passed on in the Mysore room.

Day 7: Practice class. You put the week's work into a full practice, following along as Kino guides a real student through the sequence, only going as far in the series that the week’s Tutorial + Drills classes take you. By the time you get to Day 21 you will have progressively worked up to the Full intermediate Series while seeing how the method is applied to a real body.

    The three weeks build progressively:

Week 1 — Backbends. Pasasana through Kapotasana, finishing with Full Primary + Intermediate to Supta Vajrasana.

Week 2 — Twists & Leg-Behind-Head. Bakasana through Yoganidrasana, finishing with Intermediate to Karandavasana.

Week 3 — Arm Balances & Inversions. Pincha Mayurasana through the headstands, finishing with the full Intermediate Series.

What you'll get out of it

    • The methodology, not just the shapes. Understand how each posture is built, the prerequisites, the mechanics, the common obstacles and how to work through them.
    • A structured progression instead of a random collection of tutorials. Each day builds on the last; each week ends with integration.
    • Drills you'll keep forever. The strength and mobility work in this challenge belongs in your practice long after Day 21.
    • Honest pacing. Strength, flexibility, patience, consistency. Second Series asks for all four. This challenge practices all four.
    • Direct instruction from Kino MacGregor, one of the most experienced Ashtanga teachers in the world.

By Day 21, you'll practice the full Intermediate Series with a clear understanding of what every posture asks of you, and a method for the ones still out of reach.
