  • Course Overview

The Bhagavad Gita has 700 verses in 18 chapters. Rather than skimming the surface of all 18, Tim dives deeply into just one, Chapter 17, which carries particular significance for the yoga aspirant.

Chapter 17 looks at what is required by the Yogi, with a focus on what action is, which types of action is required, faith, responsibility, discipline, generosity, and how each one shows up in the way we live. We will talk about how these qualities change depending on the state of mind behind them, how the same act can be kind and selfless, driven by ambition and desire, or clouded by other motives. For a yogi, that means practice isn’t defined only by what we do, but by how and why we do it.

Tim draws on supporting verses from across the Gita to explore three main questions:

What does it mean to truly give?

    What is action and non-action?

Which actions are required to live as a yogi?

The course opens with a short overview of the Gita’s scope and story: who Arjuna and Krishna are, what is at stake on the battlefield, and why this text has guided practitioners for centuries. Tim focuses on how these deep teachings show up in our everyday life, at work, in our relationships, in the choices we make every day and on the mat.

You don’t need any prior study of the Gita to join. If you practice asana and want to understand the philosophy that gives it meaning, this course offers an inspired, fun and practical way in.
