David and Jelena are committed to making the Ashtanga practice accessible to more people. They have taught workshops around the world and enthusiastically share the knowledge they’ve gained about the practice over the years. Every day during the workshop you’ll add more and more postures to your practice with the aim of being able to do the whole Primary Series at the end of the 5 days.

David Robson

David Robson is the director of the Ashtanga Yoga Centre of Toronto, where he leads one of the world’s largest Mysore programs outside of India. After completing a degree in Comparative Religion, David made his first trip to Mysore, India in 2002, and initiated studies with his teacher Sharath Jois. Since then he has returned annually to deepen and enrich his practice and teaching, and in 2007 he was Authorized by Sharath to teach. In addition to running his Mysore program in Toronto, David teaches workshops and retreats around the world, and he has released a popular series of instructional videos on Ashtanga called Learn To Float.

Jelena Vesić

After studying ballet for 16 years, Jelena Vesić made Yoga her sole focus in 2009. She has studied with her teacher, David Robson, since 2010, and leads the evening Mysore program at Ashtanga Yoga Centre of Toronto. She co-teaches with David Robson on workshops and retreats around the world.

    Movement and breath connect each posture together in the vinyasa system, but they also offer a profound technique that can allow us to embody non-attachment. This workshop will give you the tools to begin mastering both aspects of vinyasa.

Tuesday, April 20th

  • Perfecting the Fundamental Asanas / 30-min Q&A

    Take a deep and detailed look at the alignment and actions of Ashtanga’s opening sequence. Study the exact vinyasas that connect each of the postures, and learn ways to deepen the work and progression of your daily practice..

Wednesday, April 21st

  • Led Primary


  • Hips and Forward Bends

    The Primary Series is predominantly a sequence of hip stretching exercises performed in forward bends. This workshop will look at the biomechanical principles of hip rotation and flexion that will keep you safe while also bringing you deeper into the experience of each asana.

Thursday, April 22nd

  • Led Primary


  • The Gatekeepers

    When learning the Ashtanga sequence in a traditional pedagogy, there are certain postures that must be completed before progressing on to the next pose. These poses are often referred to as Gatekeepers, and they comprise an important part of the traditional sequencing and development in one’s asana practice. This workshop will take a detailed look at the Gatekeepers in the Primary Series, and offer guidance on how to safely work towards their full expression.

Friday, April 23rd

  • Bandhas and Strength / 30-min Q&A

    The proper execution for all of Ashtanga’s asanas requires the strength and stabilization of our core muscles. This workshop will use different exercises to identify the deep muscles that comprise the core, and then apply that knowledge to some of Ashtanga’s key postures.
